72-year-old Ted was referred to Revival with ongoing physical and mental health conditions that were impacting his ability to live independently at home. He wanted help to find more suitable accommodation for his needs.
Wellbeing Support Supervisor Beth met Ted at home to see how she could help.
“When I first met with Ted, he told me that he’d previously lived in assisted living accommodation.
“After moving out, he wanted help and support to move back into a supported living scheme, as his mental and physical health conditions were preventing him from living independently at home.
“He’d previously tried speaking to social workers, GPs and his local MP to help support his move but had so far been unsuccessful.”
Knowing Ted would thrive in an assisted living scheme, Beth got to work to find a home that was suitable for his needs.
“I spoke with the contacts who had previously been helping him with his application, to assess what the barriers were”, explained Beth.
“I called his local MP and locality connector to advocate for Ted. I also called the assisted living scheme that he wanted to live in, to check he was on their waiting list, advocating for him there too explaining why the scheme would be perfect for his needs, and why they should consider him as a priority applicant.”
A couple of weeks later, Ted received an offer to live at the assisted living scheme.
“Ted was over the moon when he got the news that he’d been offered a flat!”, said Beth.
“He was thrilled to be living close to his family, who lived nearby, and was excited to be part of the community by getting involved in the events and activities that happen on-site at the scheme.
“He said he’s looking forward to his future, and that the scheme and community will help to improve his mental health and overall wellbeing.”
